A Beginner’s Guide to Consuming Cannabis Edibles Safely

Medical marijuana can be extremely potent, and it is even stronger in concentrated form. Consuming marijuana without smoking is exploding in popularity, but few know what to expect when ingesting. It is important to know the THC level of the edible and how much to eat at one time. Since effects can take an hour or more to feel, many overdo it, and too much can be the opposite of pleasant.

Fortunately, the legalization movement is forcing standardization and regulation. Since legalizing medical cannabis back in 1996, there has been pressure to establish regulatory requirements for labeling and safer, more informative dosage guidelines for cannabis edibles. Brands are now including dosage instructions and informative packaging to comply with current and coming laws and trends.

With that in mind, here are five tips for safe consumption of potent marijuana edibles:

1. Follow Instructions

Dosing should not be a game of Russian roulette. Legal edibles now include THC content in milligrams on their labels. This makes dosing much easier. The recognized dosage standard for edibles is 10 milligrams. Newbies or smaller people should consume only half of that. If the label says one cannabis infused chocolate block contains 10 milligrams of THC, for example, then beginners should cut it in half and take five milligrams.

2. Prioritize Tolerance

Your tolerance levels are important and you should know them. If you do not, then you should always start with the smallest dose possible. The same applies to those who have not used cannabis for some time. Those with high-tolerance levels may consume twice as much as you, but do not succumb if you are not used to it. It is wiser to dose yourself in smaller increments according to a responsible plan.

3. Wait Patiently

The temptation to re-dose may be strong if the effects take time to kick in. This is the main reason why people overdo it. Marijuana-infused snacks are not suitable for mindless munching. If you do not keep track of how much you eat, your experience may become a bumpy one. It is safer to wait it out, the length of which will depend on your weight and metabolism. Do not re-dose until you feel the first one.

4. Eat Something

If your stomach is empty, the effects will feel much more potent and will hit you faster. Consider how much food you have eaten before dosing. Eat something first if you want to take a full dose, and if this is not possible, then halve your dose. Alcohol increases the effects of THC, so be mindful of how much you are drinking and be modest in your dosages.

5. Settle In

Although you can take edibles anywhere with you, it is important to only take them in an environment that makes you completely comfortable. Stay home if you plan to take a large dose, and have familiar people around that you trust. If you are eating cannabis for the first time, then ask your partner or best friend to track your consumption and be there with you.

As you gain experience with cannabis edibles, their effects will become more familiar. With time, you will feel confident about dosing instead of trepidation. If you order weed delivery online in California, then only do so from a licensed and reputable website that complies with regulatory requirements. If you cannot find a label telling you exactly what the THC levels are, then proceed with extreme caution.
